EU: Barley area, yield, and production forecast to increase this year

The EU-28 barley production 2018 is forecast at 60.342 mln tonnes versus 58.004 mln in 2017, Coceral said in its latest report.

Barley area is expected to total 12.37 mln ha (12.154 mln last year) and yields 4.88 t/ha versus 4.77 t/ha last year.

Spring barley production is expected to increase to 31.1 mln tonnes from 27.868 mln in 2017 thanks to increases both in area and yield.

Both France and Germany, the EU’s leading barley producers, are forecast to report larger output – France 12.155 mln tonnes vs. 12.084 mln last year and Germany 11.291 mln vs. 10.889 mln tonnes last year.
